New Goodies

I want to make a quilt similar to Judy's  "The Brown Quilt" found here:  http://www.patchworktimes.com/patterns/the-brown-quilt/
These are the fabrics I am considering.  I believe this is the first quilt, other than 1 class quilt, that I searched for specific fabrics.  It was fun and rather costly but definitely for a good cause!

This is for a Gentleman.  Going for Rich Browns, Green earth, Golds, and bits of red and gray.  Please give me your feedback.  I need to get this done quickly for him.  Making a Throw.  Maybe I can start searching for a theme fabric for the back!!

Neat White Mushroom found in our front yard.  Pretty neat.  It was there for about 4 days before it started looking a little sad.  Then DH cut the lawn.  Bye Bye Shroom.
Purse made from the Drapery Book fabric.  It is "huge", well for me.  :)  It is the size of a large tote bag.  Has a pocket inside.  I even "re-purposed" the cardboard from the book for the bottom support for the purse!   I made the handles a bit too wide, and once on my shoulder they seem a bit flimsy too.  I believe I will put some batting or flannel, about my shoulder length, and fold the top part of the handle in half over the batting and stitch down.

Quilt for a purple lover!!    Shhhhhh, it is a secret!!!

Sample Book Fabric

I was given some Drapery Sample Books and so I cut them apart and thought I would gently wash them, because there was glue on three of the four edges.   Below is a picture of what came out of the dryer.  GROAN...  What a huge mass of thread.  I swear I think it breathed!!!    No, not really.... well..??!!!   lol

 Can you see it breathing????

Here are the next batch..
NOT washing these!
Can you believe I did this!!!
A friend let me use her machine.
I like the hummingbird pattern!

Stipple and other messing around.

2011 Flood - Friday

Pictures coming home.

Farmers Field across from Atchison.  Where is the water coming from?

Another field across from prior picture

Same field as above.  The water is very close to this house.

Water level is down some.  Another levee broke north of us.

More of the bench to see today.

I think this is how the field by the house is getting flooded.

Looks like the Missouri flowed over the embankment and into the fields.
I wonder if this is how 59 highway will flood.  When/if this happens, I will have to drive to Leavenworth to get to work.  Right now, it costs me over $10.00/day to drive to work.  If I have to go through Leavenworth will it cost me $20.00/day?

2011 Flood - Thursday

OMG  What a change since I last took pictures.

Those two blobs are the top of the bench.

Only one blob visible.  The current shifted.

Sidewalk covered.

New marker to watch the water level with.

To the left of the metal is the boat ramp.

Parking area for the boat ramp.

Road I usually travel on.

Beautiful pic.  Poor business.

People would park beside these trees and watch the river.

2011 Garden and Flood

Thank goodness, no rain and cool breezy weather!  Perfect day to go out and work in the garden.  Yes, I know, the weeds are back.  At least this year, thanks to Tom tilling the garden, the bulk of the weeds are grass and not nasty stink weed or overgrown lambs quarter!
Green Beans.  I just pulled all the grass that was along the fence line!
Onions and Peas

Preferred Weed Killing Method!

Peppers and Zucchini

Another Weed killer method.  Not the best, strong wind blew papers all over.  basil and herbs. And lots of grass.

Grass/Weeds got away from me again.

Cucumbers!

Peas on one side and Roma Tomatoes on the other.

More of an overview of the right side of the garden.
I just worked in the garden for 3.5 hours.  Pulling weeds and moving the tarps and Rugs.  Yeah!!  here is the difference.  Unfortunately, it doesn't LOOK like I was out there that long.  :(       On the Bright side, the cows came in while I was doing this and loved the grass that I threw over the fence for them.  One cow stayed for awhile and I pulled faster so she would stay and eat more!   Heck of an exercise plan!!
Pulled the grass along the back here.  Where there is dirt, that is where I've pulled the grass.

Another View.  There is the cow fuller than before!!

You can see the moved tarps and how effective they are!

Another tarp moved and look at all that lovely dirt w/out the weeds to be planted tomorrow, if it doesn't rain!

2011 Flood - Wednesday

I went home another back way.  I think Friday will be the last day to drive this road, a because the water is right at the edge of the road in a few places.
This is a fishing/camping area.  Enlarge the picture and you can see the Utility post way out in the water.
Another Camping/Fishing area.

And another fishing/camping area.  Look at that car port.  There were two benches close to the water.  Now, they are either gone or under water.

Behind this barn is the farmer's field.  Look close and you can see the tree line almost under water that separated his field from the Missouri River

Another field flooded.
